if.net

Sorry this took so long, but I wanted to fill everyone in on my trip to L.A. as the winner of a chance to perform at the LAUGH FACTORY with JOEY MEDINA contest.   I just posted a short video documenting the trip as well.  Drop me a RECOMMENDATION while you are there if you haven’t already!

The trip was a great time and extremely worthwhile.  I made some phone calls earlier in the week to some comedian friends to see if I could network into some extra stage time while I was out there.  I flew in on Friday from Miami and grabbed some dinner and a few drinks with a buddy.   Saturday I got a phone call from the manager of a place in North Hollywood called the Haha Comedy Club.  She had a spot open up for that night and invited me to perform.  It was a cool little club and after about a 9 minute set the manager liked me enough to invite me to stay and perform at the second show. 

Sunday I hopped down to the Comedy Store for their “Potluck” night.  Basically, they parade comedians onto stage all night long starting with open mic’ers and ending with Headliners who pop in to work out their material.  I got to perform right in the middle during the “Employees and Friends of the store” section thanks to a buddy of mine who put in a good word.  I only did 4 minutes to a sparse crowd, but had a good set and it felt amazing performing on such a historic stage.  

Monday I finally fulfilled my goal of eating some In n’ Out Burger, as I always do in California.  I have to say, Sheila from If.net was incredible every step of the process.  She set everything up for me after I won, and even called to check on me a few times throughout the weekend.  She called me today to let me know she was going to come to the show.  She had given me Joey Medina’s cell phone number as per his request.  I called him and he made sure I had all the info regarding the show.  Everybody was so professional, which was nice. 

I showed up to the show before Laugh Factory was open but found Joey at a coffee shop next door and guess whom he had already made friends with?  Our own stand out If.net community member Lissa Coffey!  It was great to meet her in person!  We headed next door to start the show. The crowd wasn’t huge, but they were very receptive to all of the comedians.  In attendance that night were Sheila, Kevin Kline, and Sean whom all work for If.net.  Also, the aforementioned Lissa and Tara from the If.net community!  It was very sweet for them all to come and support me.  It was a very mixed audience, despite it being Latino Night.  I opened the show up with an 8 minute set and handed things off to Joey.  I have to admit, it was the first time in a long time that I was genuinely nervous about a set.  The club is so legendary, I think I put a lot of pressure on doing well and it took me a few minutes to settle into a comfort zone but, all in all, I think I did well.  Thanks to Big Shot Live and If.net, I have now performed at all 3 major Hollywood Comedy Clubs: The Improv, The Comedy Store, and The Laugh Factory! 

Big thanks once again to If.net, everyone who came out to see the show, and of course everyone who voted for me!  I can’t wait for another opportunity and to start all over again!  Until then, I’m checking in and voting for my talented friends!
